Help for Art Portfolio creation
You should want to and be able to talk about your work, how you are developing interests and any artists or designers that you admire. You should show different creative works - from first hand observation, your imagination, copied from books. Visiting Art galleries and museums gets ideas flowing and shows the various techniques and materials that artists have used from around the world and throughout history.
Your art portfolio should:
- be exploratory, experimental, imaginative, thoughtful and creative
- include a variety of the following: drawings, paintings, 3D models/sculpture (in photo form), photos, sketchbooks (ideally be at least A3 in size for finished drawings and paintings)
- include skills in drawing and show sensitivity to the basic elements of art and design (line, tone, colour, pattern, texture
- show evidence of many approaches to Art, using a variety of materials, processes and techniques
- include personal work produced in your own time and work produced in school

Sketchbooks are important, carry small ones around with you
Include quick sketches, cuttings, doodles – they should not be perfect but show a flow of varied ideas and interests that may help to inform future art work. You can use them anywhere, sat in the park, at a gallery, on the bus...Schools and colleges want to see these as they show a continual enthusiasm for Art and document your creative journey
