Donhead Preparatory School promotes and upholds the British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance as well as Christian Values including faith, love, forgiveness, responsibility, service, trust and unity.
We believe it important that our pupils develop a strong set of values and principles and that they question and understand what it means to grow up in British society. Our Humanities curriculum invites pupils to reflect upon their role in a diverse, multicultural and multi-faith society. Furthermore:
- An understanding of democracy is developed through the School Council. Following a vote, each class elects two Councillors to represent them on the School Council. The School Council meets once a month to bring to the table any ideas from their peers. In addition, the School Council is consulted on any school improvement ideas.
- The rule of law is developed through class discussions around the rights and responsibilities of the pupils as well as through a clearly structured Discipline and Behaviour Policy and through our focus on E-safety awareness.
- Individual liberty is developed through the ability of the children to make choices, knowing they are in a safe and supportive environment. Our extra-curricular clubs and other activities allows the children the freedom of choice. The primary importance of every individual is embodied in the school ethos and mission.
- An understanding of respect and tolerance is developed through our school ethos. These are core values of the school. Our Religious Education programme emphasis the need to respect those of all faiths and none.
These values are further developed through church services, prayer services, class assemblies and our PSHE programme.
