Art and Design Technology are taught by a specialist teacher in a dedicated art room to all children from Year 3. Reception and Pre-Prep children are taught by their form teachers, supported by the head of art. Individual Art and DT projects provide the opportunity for pupils to explore a range of materials in 2 and 3 dimensions, develop observational skills and use their imagination. Clubs are offered in both Prep and Pre- Prep and there is additional support for students who wish to pursue an art scholarship. This year, three of our talented children were awarded art scholarships. Donhead also has a gallery in the school where artwork is permanently displayed. Please come and visit!
The children have worked very hard and have been so creative in their efforts. We had vehicle and drawings from reception, Year 1 made mini beasts in clay and abstract paintings on canvas and Year 2 hung birds on branches and had a wide selection of different themed pictures. In Year 3, each group made a tree snake hanging in a tree and each child completed a boat in DT and painted a silhouette themed painting on canvas. In Year 4 the children completed half drawings of buildings and made action figures in Mod Roc. Year 5 created a number of pieces, Mod Rod insects, transportation or bridges in DT and paintings on canvas. Year 6 worked in pairs on grid art and each child built a structure for the city. The astounding array of artwork was amazing to see!
We were very lucky to have two visiting artists from our local area who came to judge our exhibition: Alex Rennie and Rob Murray. They had a very tough job in choosing from a wide selection of amazing artwork. A prize winner and an honorary mention were chosen from each year group.
